We’ve got a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Tax Agent to take on a key role at Hnry, helping us maintain our Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) registration and continue delivering world-class compliance and support to our customers.
As our Senior Tax Manager, you will also be our Supervisory Tax Agent, responsible for overseeing the quality and compliance of all tax services provided under our TPB registration. You’ll bring deep technical expertise and a passion for doing things the right way, while helping us keep processes simple and scalable as we grow.
You’ll play a hands-on role in building and maintaining our quality control systems, mentoring others, and making sure we continue to meet all TPB obligations.
🚀 Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a documented quality management system for all tax services.
- Develop and enforce internal policies and procedures for non-registered staff performing tax services.
- Provide ongoing supervision, review, and spot checks to ensure all work meets compliance and quality standards.
- Ensure full compliance with TASA 2009 and the TPB Code of Professional Conduct.
- Identify, assess, and manage ethical and compliance risks, including confidentiality and integrity matters.
- Maintain up-to-date professional knowledge and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for self and team.
- Lead, mentor, and train staff to ensure competence and adherence to professional standards.
- Maintain records of all supervision, training, and quality control activities for TPB audit purposes.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Develop and implement practical compliance procedures suitable for a fast-paced start-up setting.
- Balance regulatory rigor with efficient, scalable operational processes.

🫵 About you
You will have:
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
- An excellent understanding of Australian taxation law and commercial law.
- Proven ability to design and implement compliance systems and internal controls.
- A high attention to detail and commitment to ethical standards.
- The ability to adapt compliance practices to evolving business needs.
- A current, individual registration as a Registered Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or Law.
Bonus points if you:
- Have worked in SaaS, tech, or financial services.
- Are experienced within technical recruitment
- Understand both the Australian and New Zealand talent markets.
- Have experienced being self-employed (freelancing, contracting etc).
